A very warm welcome to the Birthmark Support Group Website

The Birthmark Support Group is a registered charity - Number 1090952. It was set up in December 1998 by parents of children with a birthmark at the suggestion of Drs Harper and Syed from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Its objective is to provide a UK based support group for anyone with a birthmark.

The word Birthmark is a common term used to describe the various birthmark types, of which port wine stain, haemangioma and congenital melanocytic naevus are all examples.

Group Aims

  1. Provide support and information to anyone who has a birthmark, and to support not only the person with the birthmark, but the whole family.
  2. Ensure a better understanding amongst the medical profession about types of birthmarks, possible complications and treatment, not only of the birthmark but of the whole person.
  3. To aid research into the cause of birthmarks (so far unknown) and possible cures.
  4. To raise general awareness and acceptance.
  5. To ease the path through schools (nursery, primary and secondary) by educating both teachers and pupils.

Huge thanks to:

Dr Syed - Associate Specialist - Birthmark Unit, Professor Harper - Consultant Dermatologist, Sister Jane Linward - for providing all our medical support.
