Birthmark Support Group Fun Days

The Drama Centre, Chigwell School, The High Road, Chigwell, Essex, IG7 6QF

21 September 2008

We returned once again to Chigwell School for the September Birthmark Support Group Fun Day.

On arrival everyone was greeted with a Welcome Pack that contained a welcome letter with a programme of events, Contacts list, Adults and Children's quiz etc. It was a very warm day, with deceptively strong sunshine.

Adults and children took advantage of the ever-busy refreshment stand to get a cooling drink. Parents sat around the outdoor tables to chat to old friends and make new acquaintances.

Children were delighted to see the Chigwell 'regulars' were there again, the bouncy castle, Poppet the pony, face painting and the outdoor pool, which brought some welcome relief from the hot sun. (Another Chigwell regular appeared later in the day!)

The barbeque was very popular, helping to sustain our energy levels for the afternoon ahead.

The formal part of the programme included the Annual General Meeting and the yearly report, including the great success of our Birthmark Support Group DVD. Many people have helped to produce and distribute the DVD. This would not have been possible without financial support.

During the afternoon our chairman Nick Ward was very pleased to be presented with a cheque for $5000 by Stuart Richardson, the Managing Director of UPS for UK and Ireland on behalf of the UPS Charitable Grants Foundation in America . One of our members, Mark Nightingale, was instrumental in obtaining this generous donation for us towards the cost of the DVD.

Just as parents were hoping for a quiet afternoon the 'manic' Marco the Clown burst onto the scene! He delightened the children with his mad-cap antics and left their parents feeling exhausted at his boundless energy.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the day.
